Creamy Hot Cocoa

Homemade rich and creamy hot cocoa simmered on the stove! Lactose free....made with almond milk...and just the perfect amount of sugar!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 4 1/3 cup almond milk, divided may use dairy milk if you prefer
  • dash of salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • additional milk, if desired

Instructions

  1. Combine the cocoa and sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add a dash of salt and 1/3 cup milk. Stir continuously until hot and steamy. Bring to a a boil, and immediately turn down to a simmer.

  2. Slowly stir in additional milk and heat until very hot, but not boiling! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. If desired, add additional milk to cool it to drinking temperature. Also, great topped with whipped cream or marshmallows and chocolate syrup.

Recipe Notes

Sometimes I add 4 Hershey miniature chocolate bars with the cocoa for a richer chocolate flavor.
