Slow Cooker Pear Cider

A timeless beverage, with a new spin...Sweet pears, simmered with spices in the slow cooker. An amazing homemade drink served hot or over ice.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 10-12 medium pears or use half pears/half apples
  • 3 cinnamon sticks or 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 16 cups water

Instructions

  1. Peel the orange and place in the slow cooker. Wash the pears, peel, roughly cut into quarters, and place in the slow cooker. Add the cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, nutmeg and sugars. Add enough water to cover the fruit.

  2. Cook on low heat for 6-7 hours. (Or high heat for 3-4 hours.)

  3. After 6-7 hours, the fruit will be very soft. Use a large spoon or potato masher to mash the fruit.  Finish cooking on low for 1 additional hour.

  4. Slowly strain the cider though a fine mesh sieve into a large pot or pitcher. Discard the solids. Strain the cider one more time. Serve warm.  (or try cold, over ice.)
