The plan yesterday was to go biking on the trail, but with the sweltering heat and humidity we decided to go shopping instead. Yay!!…new shoes, clothes and eating out!!  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good bike ride in the summer, but sometimes it’s just too HOT!! When it’s 95 degrees plus out, you need other options rather than being outside. And when it gets hot, hot, hot, I beat the heat with these cantaloupe smoothies!!  Fresh melon is a great way to stay hydrated and is very nutritious.  You add in a touch of creamy banana and the results are an amazingly thick and bursting with flavor meal, snack or treat!! I couldn’t wait to share this one, because it’s so simple, healthy and flavorful!! The perfect go-to for breakfast or a great afternoon pick-me-up!  You can’t go wrong with summer in a glass!!

Cantaloupe Smoothie

Beat the heat with a lovely sweet cantaloupe and creamy banana smoothie. With just a few ingredients and a couple steps, this secretly healthy smoothie is amazingly thick and bursting with flavor.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Servings 2

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Nonfat milk (or milk of your choice
  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • 6 ounces nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple syprup (more or less, depending on your taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups cubed, peeled and frozen cantaloupe

Instructions

  1. Place everything except the cantaloupe in a blender. Process until smooth.

  2. Add the frozen cantaloupe and process until smooth.

  3. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
