Everyone has their own special way to make a cheeseburger.  So do I really need to post a recipe on how to make a cheeseburger?  YESSS! Because this is my mom’s tried and true method; combined with my tried and true ingredients to bring you the BEST, juicy stove-top burger.  Mom would never let me take off the lid as the burgers simmered.  I add a little water to the ground beef. (Yes, you heard right, water!; Ask Paula Deen, she’ll tell you too, water helps to maintain the juiciness.)  And then for just the right amount of flavor, you add steak seasoning.  This is the best burger you can make in a skillet.  My husband always asks, how did you make these burgers?…so now the secret is out.  Summer is winding down, but burgers will remain all year round.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound lean ground beef see note
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 teaspoons steak seasoning
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup water
  • 4 burger buns (Choose a GOOD bun!) (I used pretzel buns)
  • ¼ onion thinly sliced
  • ½` teaspoon mayonnaise sliced
  • 4 slice swiss cheese (or favorite cheese)
  • 8 strips bacon cooked
  • optional: additional toppings such as lettuce and mayo
  • 1 avocado sliced

Instructions

  1. Add meat to a bowl, sprinkle with salt, pepper, steak seasoning and water. Mix by hand until meat has absorbed all the water (the water keeps the burgers moist and juicy). Shape into 4 patties.

  2. Preheat large cast iron skillet over medium high heat.  Spray with non stick cooking spray.

  3. Fry beef patties over medium-low heat for 5 minutes on each side.Turn heat to low and cover.  Cook for 15 additional minutes.  Remove from the heat.  Top each cooked patty with cheese. Replace lid until cheese starts to melt.

  4. Toast the bun, by laying the inside of the bun on the top of the toaster. (not in the toaster slots.)

  5. Assemble burgers by topping each bun half with mayo, lettuce, burger patty, bacon, avocado slices and the other bun half. Serve immediately while hot!
